|Anais Nin - 1903-1977|
Born Angela Anais Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell in Neuilly-sur Seine, France, Nin, a dancer, model, is famous for her diaries and journals stretching 60 years. Her book on D. H. Lawrence is believed to have been written in 16 days.
Nin recorded everything in her diaries in graphic detail, giving a window into her life and relationships and the times. She wrote of Henry Miller, Gore Vidal, Antonin Artaud, Edmund Wilson, James Agee, Leo Herlihy and Lawrence Durrell as friends and lovers. Henry Miller is credited with shaping Nin as a woman and an author.
Nin died on January 14, 1977 at age 50.
