Anais Nin - Famous Author

Anais Nin - 1903-1977
"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."--Anais Nin

Born Angela Anais Juana Antolina Rosa Edelmira Nin y Culmell in Neuilly-sur  Seine, France, Nin, a dancer, model, is famous for her diaries and journals stretching 60 years. Her book on D. H. Lawrence is believed to have been written in 16 days.

Nin recorded everything in her diaries in graphic detail, giving a window into her life and relationships and the times. She wrote of Henry Miller, Gore Vidal, Antonin Artaud, Edmund Wilson, James Agee, Leo Herlihy and Lawrence Durrell as friends and lovers. Henry Miller is credited with shaping Nin as a woman and an author.

Nin died on January 14, 1977 at age 50.

Writing Tip:

Keep a notebook for every month of the year. Fill it with all that is going on in your daily life--the people you meet, the friends you make, and don't forget to open the window--write what you see.

Writing Quote:

"The writer gives ideals to his times. He gives people a sense that what is necessary is also possible. And out of the writer's ideals a society receives its basic energy. There has never been a great society without great writers."--Norman Cousins
Now go write something.

See you in print,

Linda Della Donna
